Alongside our regular activities we also run workshops and training courses, working in partnership with other organisations, to help you broaden your awareness and learn new skills for volunteering, employment or career progression. Everyone is welcome to join our activities and training, which are free of charge. However, as a charity, Faversham Umbrella is not publicly funded and donations to support our work are always very welcome!

This qualification is designed to provide knowledge and understanding of food allergens and foods that commonly cause intolerances, the importance of effectively communicating information regarding allergenic ingredients to customers, and how staff can minimise the risk of cross- contamination.

Ensure that all learners are aware of their own safety and the safety of others in any workplace. Even though employers are responsible for providing safe and healthy workplace conditions as well as the right systems and methods for safe activities employees also have a vital part to play.

This one-day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course is recommended for those wishing to become nominated emergency first aiders in workplaces. It is a classroom-based course with practical assessments and a short, multiple-choice question paper at the end. Emergency First Aid at Work certificate will be issued upon successful completion, which is valid for 3 years.

Introduce the skills and personal qualities required for careers and job opportunities within the customer service sector. e.g. Dealing with the public face to face; Dealing with complaints; Codes of practice and legislation that apply to the Customer service sector. This is an essential qualification for anyone looking to work (or volunteer) in food preparation in a café, restaurant or organisation. It is the legal minimum requirement in order to handle food in the workplace. The course covers food safety hazards, all aspects of temperature control, food handling and storage.

This course provides you with an opportunity to learn some skills to reduce the likelihood of abusive and threatening behaviour. You may only experience a small percentage of abusive, threatening or violent situations at work, but when they do occur, they can have a huge impact on your quality of life. By attending this course, you will learn a range of ways to deal with difficult situations, which will develop your knowledge, ability to deal with conflict situations and your confidence.
